PA Mat Rankings uses a composite scoring system (0–100) built from five weighted components. Every ranked wrestler is scored and sorted within their age group and weight class.
Total Score = Recency (30%) + Results (25%) + Schedule Strength (20%) + Win Quality (15%) + Activity (10%)
Rankings are earned on the mat, with the most recent results carrying the most weight — just like tournament seeding in wrestling. If you just beat the #1 wrestler at states, your recency score reflects it immediately. Every point is traceable to recorded, verified matches.
The primary differentiator. Recent match performance uses steep decay: matches in the last 14 days carry full weight (1.0x), 30 days (0.9x), 60 days (0.7x), 90 days (0.5x), 180 days (0.3x), and over a year (0.05x). What you did last weekend matters far more than what happened in November.
State championship and qualifier placements. A PJW or Keystone state title earns maximum credit. Prestige tiers weight the value: state championships (1.0x), area/regional qualifiers (0.38x), local events (0.22x). Placing 2nd at states is worth more than winning a local tournament.
The average verified strength of all opponents you have faced. Beating wrestlers who are themselves highly ranked boosts your score more than victories over unranked opponents. Opponents need at least 5 recorded matches for full quality credit.
Rewards how you win. Pins earn the most credit (1.4x), followed by tech falls (1.25x), major decisions (1.1x), and decisions (1.0x). Blends win rate (70%) with volume (30%), so both winning percentage and total wins matter.
Match volume and consistency of competition. Wrestlers who stay active on the mat receive a meaningful boost over those with long gaps between events.
Final Score = Raw Score × (0.40 + 0.60 × min(verified_matches / 10, 1.0))
Wrestlers with fewer than 10 verified matches receive a confidence penalty. A wrestler with 3 matches (the minimum to be ranked) starts at 58% confidence. This prevents small sample sizes from producing misleadingly high rankings. At 10+ matches, the score reaches full confidence.
A wrestler must have at least 3 recorded matches within the tracking window to appear in the rankings. Weight classes are aligned with the current year's PJW and Keystone state championship brackets.
Below is every tournament whose results are currently loaded. If a match is missing, check here first — if the event isn’t on this list, it hasn’t been added yet, which is why those results don’t appear on wrestler profiles or in the rankings. Coverage expands over time as more events are sourced and verified.
Don’t see an event you think should be here? Event request submissions are coming soon — for now, use the “Report an Issue” button (choose “Missing Tournament Results”) or email [email protected] with the event name and date.
PA Mat Rankings is an independent, community-built platform tracking Pennsylvania youth wrestling rankings across all age groups and weight classes for both Boys and Girls divisions. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling (PJW), Keystone Wrestling, USA Wrestling, the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA), or any other governing body or club organization.
Rankings use a composite scoring model (0–100) built from five weighted components:
A confidence multiplier scales scores for wrestlers with fewer than 10 verified matches — preventing small sample sizes from producing misleadingly high rankings. Minimum 3 recorded matches required to receive a ranking. See the full methodology →
Match and placement data is compiled from publicly available tournament results published by event organizers and sanctioning bodies. We strive for accuracy and completeness but cannot guarantee that every match or tournament is captured. Data has been subject to automated identity resolution (merging duplicate wrestler entries) — while we validate these operations, occasional errors may exist. If you notice a data error or wish to dispute a ranking, please contact us or use the "Report an Issue" button on any profile page.
